[tag]Second Life[/tag], a [tag]MMORPG[/tag] (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) from Linden Research Ltd., has become one of the most famous virtual worlds in the internet, with more than 2 million residents.

Companies, important companies, such as Cisco Systems and [tag]IBM[/tag], have built their own virtual offices in this world, creating a virtual environment to attract customers and keep employees happy.

IBM in Second Life

IBM has recently bought 10 islands from the virtual world, mainly for marketing and training purposes, that is, for employees. According to the company, they expect to lower the travelling costs of employees by organizing virtual meetings in Second Life instead of the physical ones.

… It may be an excellent communication system for employees, and clients, and everything… but how do you yell at your boss in a [tag]virtual[/tag] enviroment?

Google’s expansion has not only reached every single media in the internet such as search, video, shoping, or even satellite imagery, but has also started to expand in the internet service, especially in WiFi.

Soon, the whole city and county of San Francisco will be “wired” with the [tag]Google[/tag] and [tag]Earthlink[/tag] Wifi service, that will reach the whole [tag]San Francisco[/tag] to offer a variety of offers and plans in wifi connection.

Google Wifi San Francisco

We finally see someone making the difference. [tag]Wifi[/tag] started as a revolutionary service that most hotels, airports and restaurants offered for free, but nowadays this has disappeared. Wifi at hotels is usually available only on the hall, and at unforgivable rates. Airports and restaurants, as well.

Let’s hope that Google’s initiative to change the way we see the internet actually makes other companies to open their eyes and see the truth: the net is the future.

[tag]IronPort[/tag] Systems, an e-mail [tag]security[/tag] firm, was bought by [tag]Cisco Systems[/tag] for $830 million in cash and stock. IronPort’s recent innovation in e-mail security consists of a tool that analyzes the links of your mail, to classify [tag]SPAM[/tag] more accurately.

IronPort and Cisco Systems

The company, based in San Bruno, CA, was leader in anti-SPAM systems and sold its products to larger companies such as the very same Cisco. This last acquisition of Cisco Systems is strongly important because it expands their role in the detection and removal of Junk mail, something of major importance on the internet nowadays.

“This was a very strategic purchase for us,” said Richard Palmer, senior vice president of the Cisco Security Technology Group. “If you think of the vision of the self-defending network, it’s important to protect whatever is coming in and out of the network. And that is what IronPort does.”

The deal will be finally closed within the next three months, and IronPort’s 400 employees will work under the Security division of Cisco Systems, which already has 900 people.

Google in China

It has been recently informed that [tag]Google[/tag] has acquired the 4% of the website [tag]Xunlei[/tag].com, for $5 millions. The Chinese website allows users to download music and video.

This may be another step of Google to take over music and video [tag]online distribution[/tag].

Moreover, Google’s steps into the Chinese market have been slow and difficult, since the Chinese government has censored most of Google services and the company has faced many difficulties.

Around a year ago, Google introduced in the Chinese market physically, creating Google.cn. However, services such as Google News and GMail are still difficult to apply because of the complexities of [tag]China[/tag], its government and the great amount of population in the country.

The new RTX Telecom [tag]DUALphone[/tag] 3088 is the first cordless telephone for Skype that does not require direct PC connection and lets you choose between normal telephone line and your [tag]Skype[/tag] line.

DUALphone 3055The $200 (159 euro) DUALphone contains built-in Skype software.

The cordless capability is provided by [tag]DECT[/tag] wireless technology, and the base station connects to the broadband router and the phone line. It features a color display and 10 hours of talk time as well as up to 140 hours in standby mode.

It is one of the best choices I have seen in a long time. Usually, they lack of something, but in this case, everything seems to be perfect.

I have the previous version of DUALphone, the 3055, which also supports both lines at the sime time (your Skype and the normal telephone line), but needs connection to your PC.

If you still want to get the old version, buy it now!
